So, I was thinking of starting out with an Annex I-7 facemask, a $100 stock M4 Carbine, and a Griffon chest rig with 3 AK mag pouches, and maybe a few mags for the M4 if I'm lucky. I'm not completely sure on the names of the items, so don't quote me on that. Any suggestions?

I think you'll want to do a goggle/mesh lower mask combo. I find full face masks very annoying and not fun at all. It would be more but here's a entry head gear combo with MY preferences.
Emerson Helmet NOT economy version. (Eco one sucks) -$60 Goggles. Flak jacks, ESS, voodoo tactical a new thermal ones.. -$20-60 Lower mesh mask -$10-20
It's a lot more, but it will be a lot better than essentially a paintball mask.
Lancer tactical M4 will be fine, if that's really as high as you can go. The general opinion of them is that they have fairly good internals for the price but externals are poopoo. Perhaps save up for a JG or ICS sportline?
That chest rig...eww. I am not a geardo, so I won't comment. But that looks like it may disintegrate in you hands. I'm sure someone else can help you better here.
Anything condor except for their soft-shells is generally regarded as shat. I have some conderp knee pads, but they haven't seen a whole lot of use. You really don't need elbow pads, but whatever floats your boat, I guess. King arms mags are ok, but MAG brand mid caps are better. You can get them in an 8 pack. (You don't need 10 mags. You rarely EVER need 8) I carry 7 on my person if I'm expecting a firefight.
One more thing on Your gun. I think you can afford an fmg4 if you cut some of the stuff you don't need (elbow pads, balaclava, etc.) also, it's not hard to get some quick cash, and as your just starting, it might be a better idea to get you guns first and learn how to shoot well, before even going on the field. Do you have any knowledge/experience with guns?

I'm sorry, but I find a lot of your information to be overly critical. This was supposed to be a starter setup and nothing overly complicated. Anyway, no. I don't really have much experience with guns. Just know a lot about them.

I'm not trying to be over-critical. People have different definitions of "start up" so I was just probing. If you wanted an honest opinion, you got it. While all of the stuff will work, some (mainly just the elbow pads, face mask, and vest) will either not hold up as well or is generally not preferred as others of the same price range. If you are so set on getting this "starter kit", then by all means, have at it. I was just wondering if you could do better. I get you're just getting into it.
I get ya, man. It's just that's a lot of information for starting up. I was going to get a better gun, vest, knee/elbow pads if those aren't up to standards, and a helmet, goggles, and a lower face mesh later on down the road as an "Intermediate" setup. But thanks. I'll check out some of the gear you listed and integrate it into my setup. As for if I can do better? I'm 15, and running off my mom's money in an extremely poor town. Which is why I want a job. So, I can go do all the stuff I want to do, like airsoft, and get away from my family.

Ahh. That sucks. I live in northern va so it's fairly affluent around here but I have to buy everything (airsoft related) meaning finding odd jobs at 14. :/
Yeah. I kinda just want to avoid that. I'm not a very public person. I mean, I'm sure I COULD do it, and save up enough money, but like I said. I'm just not a people person.

Aye. Unfortunately, that's how I get all my jobs, haha. Your status makes me laugh. We do have positions open, but we aren't exactly looking to hand them out like candy anymore. If you think you could help with anything, please let us know though.

Well, we have player resource, tech, and forum positions. I have to go to dinner for a few but we can discuss when I get back. (should be like 20-39 mins)
Post by BlackNightBravo on Mar 16, 2014 19:29:03 GMT -5
Yep. Research and player resources. Basically making sure everyone's happy, lol. And yes, researching events and making tech aware of them. Tech is website management, I think we have that covered, unless you have something good to bring to the table. Then forum permissions are basically up to the admins and whether they think a member is right to be a mod. We are actually going to have a large permission change soon, so people will be moved around. I'll be making a thread on this so people can discuss it without crapping in threads.
I'm sure I could do research and player resources. Listening to complaints is a pretty easy job, is it not? As for research, I've never actually searched for an event before. So, I'm kinda out of luck there. We could probably put someone else as player resources alongside me. Just to make sure we have all the man power we need there. And we'd obviously working with Tech, Mods, and Admins to make sure it's a nice environment for having fun talking about airsoft.
Ill be back tomorrow with everything you need just to start out that will save you money without wasting it on things you dont need now. If i dont post by this time tomorrow pm me and remind me. In the mean time go to my post on the budget guns
Hi! I'm the forum's gear mod, so maybe I can be of assistance. As previously stated, the Golem chest rig isn't worth it. Look into flyye on shootercbgear and Pantac on airsoftsmith. BNB brought up a helmet. You don't need one. I don't run one, and I'm fairly experienced. Take that money and put it towards a good vest. Atogether, here's what I would recommend for a barebones starter kit: Head: Old ballcap Surplus ESS goggles from eBay Mesh mask Chest: Look into flyye and Pantac like I said Clothes: For now, whatever "Camouflage" you have should suffice. If lacking that, sturdy stuff like work pants and a tee shirt should suffice.
That's it really! Hope this helped!

THE ONLY KIND OF CAMO TO GET IS AOR1!! IT IS TO ME LIKE CADPAT IS TO RONDEB
(sorry about that rant.)
As before stated by bnb and rondeb, a mesh mask is the way to go I started out buying a paintball mask and regretted it. I now have two mesh masks and really like them both.

False. Multicam. It is probably the cheapest, most effective camo out there. I got a very nice massif combat short off eBay NEW for $15 or less. Pants are a little more expensive but pretty much all other camo (other than M81 woodland) is going to cost you more. (But Multicam is miles better than M81 so that's not even a decision. )

where I lived out in CA you had to have a desert camo type, or I probably would have bought multicam and as I am going to move out there again it makes sense for me to get aor1.
