Granted I have never been a shotgunner before, it seems as if you need more time that money really, time to get reloading and snapshots to a fine art. But you can do it for dirt cheap so I see the trade off as a fair deal myself.
Osawaab is the one!
BlackNightBravo is awesome,
Rondeb is cool,
Gunjack is sick,

Shotgun $50 1 bag of ammo $10 Ess goggles from ebay $10-15 Extra shells $10 That leaves $20 for shipping, he can always play in hunting camo. Thats how i started out lol
tell him to pick an AEG up on CL for $50 or $60 shotguns make you feel like you brought a knife to a minigun shoot...
Actually, as long as you play to the advantages of the shotgun you will be fine. You obviously can't do suppressive fire or super long range shots but if you do it right you can be effective.

Because I am sticking to a sub $75 budget, and I can run around a heck of a lot faster in jeans than bdu's .
Funny, I can run faster in my BDUs than in jeans. My BDUs are looser than my jeans because I have bigger thigh and calve muscles than the average Joe. (courtesy of ballet)

Jeans arnt the best idea for airsoft, but its not bad either if thats what you got. A pair of tactical paints or OD paints are much better tho. m81 woodland can be had pretty cheap these days.
I have only used a shotgun once, I borrowed my son's tri-burst to use as a secondary. I got into a tight spot and my M4 ran out of ammo, so I swung up the shot gun to defend myself. It was then that I decided that I would have rather had my pistol. I've seen some players use a shotgun to great effect, but they are just not my thing.
